If you’re worried that a toner might irritate your sensitive skin, I can assure you there are several K-beauty products that you can use without a second thought.

A few of my favorites, which are the top Korean toners for sensitive skin, are rounded up below.

How to select the best toner for sensitive skin?

The best Korean toners for sensitive skin are those that are completely free of harsh and drying ingredients like sulfates, alcohol, and parabens.

There are 3 types of Korean toners – water-based toners, glycerin-based toners, and alchol-based toners.

It’s best if you stay away from alcohol-based toners if you have sensitive skin as alcohol can irritate your skin and leave it red and inflammed.

Also, the best toner of 2023 is water-based. So go for those instead.

Some of the commonly used toner ingredients like witch hazel, menthol, etc., are also not suitable for sensitive skin, and I strongly suggest avoiding them.

Instead, opt for toners with the following ingredients:

  • AHA (glycolic acid) and BHA (salicylic acid): AHA or glycolic acid and BHA or salicylic acid are known to be chemical exfoliators. These remove dead skin cells, blackheads, and other impurities from your face without irritating the skin. If a product contains one of these ingredients, it is the best Korean toner for large pores.
  • Moisturizer: It’s important to keep sensitive skin hydrated. So always choose a toner with moisturizing agents like aloe vera or hyaluronic acid. I think you should skip rich emollient-based toners like those with glycerin, as these too can irritate your skin.
  • Anti-inflammatory ingredients (Skin Soothers): Sensitive skin is prone to redness and breakouts, so the best Korean toners for sensitive skin should contain anti-inflammatory agents. Natural ingredients like chamomile, tea tree oil, and green tea are some of my favorites.
  • Antioxidants: Look for toners with antioxidants like Vitamin C, Polyphenols, etc. These help reduce the damage done by free radicals, healing your skin cells. Antioxidants help prevent aging and improve skin tone as well.

What ingredients to look for in a Korean toner for sensitive skin?

While no two skin types are the same, there are certain key ingredients that should be identified when searching for a toner that can adequately address your specific skin needs.

The foundation of any good toner for sensitive skin is an antioxidant-rich formulation, as a powerful antioxidant can help reduce inflammation that commonly occurs in sensitive skin.

These antioxidants help protect the skin against environmental stressors like pollution and UV rays. Vitamin C and green tea extracts are both known to be powerful, natural antioxidants that can help keep your skin healthy and strong.

Another powerful antioxidant to look for is ferulic acid, which fights against free radicals and helps clarify your skin.

The next key ingredient to look for in a Korean toner for sensitive skin is hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a humectant that helps to retain moisture in the skin, making it a great choice for those who want to preserve their skin’s moisture balance and avoid dryness.

Hyaluronic acid also helps to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, making it a great choice for any anti-aging routine.

Those with sensitive skin should also consider looking for toners that contain soothing botanical extracts like chamomile, aloe vera, and licorice.

These extracts work to reduce redness and irritation, while also providing a calming and calming effect. Other beneficial natural ingredients such as honey, witch hazel, and aloe vera can also help provide intense hydration and nourishment to the skin.

Lastly, probiotics can be an effective way to address skin sensitivities without the use of harsh chemicals.

Probiotics have been found to have a calming and soothing effect on the skin, as well as reduce inflammation and nourish the skin’s microbiome. Probiotics help maintain balanced pH levels, which is extremely beneficial for those with sensitive skin types.

When searching for a Korean toner for sensitive skin, it is important to take into account all of the different ingredients mentioned above.

You can also look for products containing herbal extracts, like lavender, tea tree, and rosemary, which can provide further relief from skin sensitivity and can even help to reduce the appearance of redness.

Ultimately, careful scrutiny of the ingredients used in each toner and chosen based on how best they can target the needs of your specific skin type.

No matter which toner you decide to go for, it is essential to always opt for products intended for sensitive skin types.

Is it safe to use a toner on sensitive skin?

Yes absolutely! A lot of people are hesitant to use toners on sensitive skin. But not all products are of the alcohol-rich, astringent variety.

There are several best Korean toners for sensitive skin that are formulated using ingredients best suited for this skin type.

Another tip I’d like to share on sensitive skincare is to avoid using a cotton pad while applying toner. Just soak a cotton ball and gently press it on to your skin.

Or better yet, rub a few drops of the toner in between clean palms and dab them on your face. The body heat can even help absorb the toner better.

Even if you’ve got the best toner for sensitive skin, the friction of the cotton pad swiping across your face can lead to irritation.

How I selected these Korean toners for sensitive skin?

I have dry sensitive skin so I used these toners myself and then rated them from 1-5 based on certain factors. These include:

  • Mildness of Formula – As someone with sensitive skin the first thing I looked for is how gentle the formula is. So I checked for presence of alcohol, astringents, perfumes and other such harsh ingredients.
  • Pore Refining and Cleansing – I then checked how well the toner can reduce pore size and remove excess grease from skin without stripping it of moisture
  • Moisturizing – Also sensitive skin needs to stay hydrated so I checked for moisturizing ingredients like hyaluronic acid, etc. in the toner.

Missha Time Revolution Clear Toner

Best Brightening Toner For Sensitive Skin

best korean toner for sensitive acne prone skin

If you ask me, this Missha toner could be the best Korean toner ever. Why? It’s just such a multi-tasker! The product does not only help shrink pores and tighten skin.

But what I loved most about this product is that it goes beyond that and functions as an anti-aging product.

This toner comes enriched with rice water extracts and fermented yeast extracts both of which are super popular in traditional Korean beauty culture.

And frankly I can see why as the toner left my skin softer and pores noticeably reduced.

Yes, there’s the AHA and BHA in the toner that act as a chemical exfoliator and gently remove blackheads, dirt, and dead skin cells. But don’t worry they aren’t too harsh on sensitive skin.

I find that if you have oily skin type which also tends to be sensitive you should use this Missha Time Revolution toner. It’s also a good choice if you’re looking for an anti-aging products.

Like most of the best Korean toners for sensitive skin, this Missha toner too is free of harsh ingredients. So no alcohol or parabens here!

The only issue I had with this toner is that I have dry skin and would have preferred something more nourishing which this toner is not.

Pros:

  • Alcohol free and perfume free so it won’t irritate sensitive skin
  • Unclogs pores thanks to the AHA and BHA formula
  • Improves skin tone as it contains fermented rice extracts

Cons:

  • Not for dry skin types as it lacks moisturizing ingredients

My Ratings:

  • Mildness of Formula – 4.5/5

Dear Klairs Toner For Acne Supple Preparation Hyaluronic Acid

Best Hydrating Toner For Oily, Acne-prone Skin

best toner for sensitive skin

There’s one dilemma a lot of people with sensitive and oily skin face. All the toners formulated for oily skin come with drying witch hazel extracts.

And the best Korean toners for sensitive skin are nourishing but can aggravate acne by making your face extra greasy.

Which is why I absolutely loved this Klairs toner!

It comes packed with mild, natural ingredients like lavender oil, citrus oil, and lemon peel oil that keep the sebum production in check.

You won’t find even chemical exfoliators like AHA or BHA here. So it’s a good choice if you have really senstive inflamed skin.

I liked that it also contains hydrating sodium hyaluronate, beta-glucan, and Lipidure that prevent sensitive skin from getting too dry.

best unscented korean toner for sensitive skin

My face can break out at times yet remain dry, so this worked wonders for my acne while keeping my skin soft and yet oil-free at the same time.

I certainly liked it better than the Missha Time Revolution toner which I found to be to drying after a while.

This alcohol and paraben-free formulation works wonders to restore your skin’s natural pH balance.

So if you want to strike the right balance between nourishing and cleansing, this is the best choice for you!

The only issue I could find with this toner is that it’s a tad expensive. But hey, if you want to look after your skin, I see this as a worthy investment.

Etude House Soon Jung Ph 5.5 Relief Toner

Best Korean Toner For Rosacea

best korean exfoliating toner for sensitive skin

If you look at the formula for any of the best Korean toners for sensitive skin, you’ll see how mild and non-irritating they are when applied.

But do these toners work for skin conditions like rosacea? Yes, the Etude House Soon Jung Ph 5.5 Relief Toner does, at the least.

What I loved most about this toner is that it helps maintain the skin’s pH at the perfect, slightly acidic level of 5.5.

And it’s also hypoallergenic and free of all the big bad ingredients like mineral oils, alcohol, parabens, silicones, and artificial fragrances.

In fact I found it best among unscented toners as I really liked the combination of panthenol and Madecassoside this toner contains.

how to use korean toners for dry skin

Thanks to the combo, it helped soothe inflammation on my skin (panthenol) and helped keep it hydrated and soft (Madecassoside).

It also felt so much nicer on my dry skin than either the Klairs toner or the Missha one.

However, you can’t have everything in life so let me tell you that this toner isn’t that great at oil-reduction or pore refining.

If you’re looking for something that can clease skin thouroughly stick to the AHA-BHA-based Missha toner or the citrus-based Dear Klairs one.

This toner has a emulsion like formula and is more equipped to moisturize dry skin.

Pros:

  • Hydrating and soothing thanks to the Panthensoside in formula
  • Hypoallergenic formula suits skin with inflammation and rosacea
  • pH balanced formula with 5.5 pH doesn’t irritate skin with rosacea or redness
  • No animal-derived ingredients, parabens, synthetic perfumes or colorants present

Cons:

  • May worsen fungal acne

My Ratings:

  • Mildness of Formula – 5/5
  • Pore Refining and Cleansing – 3/5
  • Moisturizing – 5/5
