Best Vocalists In Kpop According To Fans
So which kpop vocalist is the most popular among fans? Well, read on to find out!
Woozi (SEVENTEEN)
Lee Ji Hoon of SEVENTEEN or Woozi as he’s generally known is a powerful vocalist. In fact, he can be considered one of Korea’s most prolific singers ever.
Did you know that he has got over 120 songs copyrighted? Yup and some fans believe that if all his unreleased songs were counted this number would significantly go up.
He has also released a single recently called RUBY which is already topping charts.
Here check out Woozi’s vocal skills for yourself!
MJ (ASTRO)
MJ or Kim Myung-jun is the lead vocalist of the group ASTRO that debuted in the year 2016. He was first noticed in the 2012 JYP Entertainment X HUM Audition where was a contestant.
And even then you could notice the bass in his voice. As of 2022 he’s currently serving the compulsory military deployment in South Korea.
Jay B (GOT7’s Main Vocalist)
What I loved most (as do his fans I presume) is that he has a very light, airy way of singing. His voice is deep and powerful like other vocalists like V from BTS or MJ from ASTRO.
In fact, his voice is quite soft and smooth and is a perfect fit for power ballads.
Xiumin (EXO’s Lead Vocalist)
I feel Xiumin from EXO is a very underrated vocalist. He has a very well rounded voice that can go to any pitch and timbre. But he shines in the falsettos of his songs.
And I was really sad to notice that he wasn’t the lead vocalist of EXO anymore. I feel SM Entertainment should get him back and let him prove himself once again.
His vocal delivery is also very powerful.
Solar (MAMAMOO)
When it comes to the second generation Kpop groups, no one can match Solar’s vocals in the female category.
And even the younger generation is now aware of her talents thanks to the release of her hit single Spit It Out in the year 2022.
A lot of professional trained vocalists have noted how good Solar is at singing in the A3 – C#5 range.
But I do feel her voice cracks a bit when going above the C#5 note.
Solar also has really good harmonizing skills which makes her voice gel really well with all of her bandmates.
Donghae (Super Junior’s Lead Vocalist)
Kihyun (MONSTA X’s Main Vocalist)
Check out Kihyun’s vocal talents here!
Irene (Red Velvet’s Sub Vocalist)
The only reason Irene isn’t ranking higher on the list is because she doesn’t have a good higher range.
Otherwise Irene is the perfect fit to be Red Velvet’s sub vocalist.
Onew (SHINee’s Main Vocalist)
Jihyo (TWICE’s Main Vocalist)
Rose (Blackpink)
According to me Rose is the most versatile vocalist of her generation. Her vocal range is between 3 octaves and 5 notes (D3~C7), so she can sing just about anything with ease.
Since she can hit those high notes, Rose often sings the soprano parts in Blackpink’s music.
V (BTS)
The way contemporary Kpop music is arranged it’s important to find a good baritone. But it can get really difficult for guys (and even some girls) to hit this note as they are used to a lower pitch.
But V or Kim Taeyung has a voice that naturally lends itself to a baritone. So he can hit all the high notes ranging from Eb2 ~ D6.
Taeyeon (Girls’ Generation)
Among the girls Taeyeon from Girl’s Generation is among the top female Kpop vocalists. She has a fairly mixed register and has a medium vocal range that ends at either F3/F#3 or Eb5/E5 notes.
She shines in songs that have a low to mid tempo, where she can make her voice deeper. The song “Moonlight” from her solo album is a wonderful example of this.
Taeyang (BIGBANG’s Main Vocalist)
I think Taeyang from BIGBANG deserves a huge shout for being the best vocalist of his generation.
He sings really well in the C4 to E4 range and can even hit notes in the F4 and G4 range during the outro of a song. All without sounding too nasally.
His vocals can only be described as relaxed and confident. A lot of fans and vocal experts alike feel Taeyang hits a really good falsetto note.
And they are right of course!
While I do concede that Taeyang’s voice sounds a bit constricted in the high notes, as a man he doesn’t have to go that high in his songs. So it’s not that big of a deal.
