BTS is one of the most popular K-pop groups in the world. A lot of people who listen to the group don’t know that the group members are huge anime fans.
In this blog, I will discuss BTS members’ favorite anime series and which series they recommend.
Naruto
BTS Member Who Watches It – Everyone (But Suga and RM in particular)
Okay, how can anyone NOT be a fan of Naruto! It’s perhaps the most famous and recognizable anime in the world.
So of course, even BTS members are not immune to it.
Many members have revealed that this anime is their favorite. Suga and RM especially have considered Naruto their favorite anime.
Other members like Jin and Jungkook have also expressed how much they like the show.
In fact, in the ninth episode of their reality show BTS-Run, the group chose the theme song of Naruto to sing in the karaoke competition.
And of course, they were doing the signature Naruto run while they were at it!
Here’s a video of them singing the Naruto theme song!
My Hero Academia
BTS Member Who Watches It – V
A lot of BTS members watch anime as a fun pastime. But there’s one member who uses it as a destresser before performing on stage. V loves to watch anime before singing in BTS’s concerts.
And his favorite anime to watch during this time is My Hero Academia.
The official My Hero Academia twitter even follows V!
The anime series started in 2016 and is about a superhero-obsessed boy called Izuku Midoriya who despite being ordinary himself, wants to make a name for himself in a world full of super-powered beings.
This anime series is written by Kōhei Horikoshi and illustrated by him as well. There are 5 seasons of the show with the official word being that the anime series is set to wrap up in 2022 with a sixth season.
One Piece
BTS Member Who Watches It – Jimin
One Piece will go down in history as perhaps the longest running anime series ever made. The show started in October 1999 and is still ongoing. Amazing right?
And what’s more, the story is far from complete with fans speculating that the anime can only wrap up around 2024 or even later.
And who’s the ultimate One Piece fan in BTS? Well, Jimin of course!
Here is BTS’s various One Piece merchandise
He is especially fond of the swashbuckling pirate character Zoro. Jimin was really touched when he received an action figure of Zoro for his birthday as a gift from fans.
If you want to see why Jimin likes One Piece so much you can stream the show yourself. But you better hurry up as there are about 981 episodes and counting!
The show follows the adventures of Monkey D Luffy, a pirate and his crew as they hunt for the ultimate treasure called “One Piece” left hidden by the legendary pirate Gold Roger.
Slam Dunk
BTS Member Who Watches It – Jungkook and Suga
Both Jungkook and Suga have expressed their admiration for this basketball anime. Suga has also declared it “the best…” anime ever!
Jungkook has also said he prefers watching sports anime series and that Haikyuu is another one of his favorites.
Suga has a special connection with Slam Dunk as he too used to be a basketball player in high school.
Here is a video of BTS talking about Slam Dunk and other anime series!
In fact, you’ll be surprised (or maybe not so surprised) to know that Suga (which is Min Yoon-gi’s stage name) is derived from the word “shooting guard” , the position he used to play in basketball!
Slam Dunk is a great anime to watch. It follows a punk teenage boy called Hanamichi Sakuragi who develops a direction and mission in his life after discovering his talent and love for basketball.
The anime series ran for two seasons between 1993 and 1996.
Dragon Ball
BTS Member Who Watches It – Jin and Suga
If we were to talk about the most popular and influential anime out there, the conversation wouldn’t be complete without mentioning Dragon Ball or its later iterations.
Jin and Suga are two members from BTS who are especially fond of the show. In fact, the team got into a debate about which among the top 3 classic anime is the best – One Piece, Naruto or Dragon Ball. And Jin and Suga both chose Dragon Ball as the best!
Here is Jin doing the “Kamehameha” pose in a concert!
Dragon Ball and its even famous sequel Dragon Ball Z follows the adventures of Goku, an alien from the planet Saiyan and his group of friends who protect Earth from threats.
The title of the show is derived from the mystical seven Dragon Balls that Goku has to collect in order to summon Shenron, a dragon that can grant any wish.
Dragon Ball was created by legendary manga artist Akira Toriyama and first aired in February 1986.
Attack On Titan
BTS Member Who Watches It – Everyone!
This one anime series is super popular with every single BTS member! Do you know their song “Attack on Bangtan” was inspired by Attack on Titan?
The show follows a post-apocalyptic world where humanity is targeted by flesh-eating monsters called Titans.
Humans including our main lead Eren Jaeger have been living under the protection of a giant wall. But one day a colossal Titan breaks the wall down making humanity vulnerable to more giant attacks.
The anime is about Eren’s quest to find and kill every last Titan as his mother was eaten by one.
BTS’ members are crazy about this anime and own a lot of merchandise from the show. They have also read the manga on which the show is based.

Crayon Shin Chan
BTS Member Who Watches It – J-Hope
Well, not everyone can be a fan of anime! The “sunshine of BTS” Hoseok or J-hope as he’s better known isn’t a fan of thrillers and sports anime like his teammates.
He instead prefers the children’s show Crayon Shin Chan. Cute, isn’t it? True BTS fans how totally on-brand that is for J-hope!
Shin Chan is a Japanese cartoon that follows the daily shenanigans of a 5 year old boy called Shinchan Nohara.
He’s a precocious little boy who is always causing trouble for his mother Mitzi Nohara and his dad Hiro Nohara. There’s also a cute dog called Shiro and Shin Chan’s even cuter little sister Himawari.
J-Hope was even surprised with a Shin Chan doll by a fan at a concert!
