Korean entertainment has grown and is widely popular across the globe. It is not only known of the groups but also their unique genre.
Among the several popular groups well-known to youth today, BlackPink seems to top the charts.
Who is the Leader of Blackpink?
Every group usually has a leader to be the connector between the group and the agency. Someone who is bound to take responsibility in case any issues arise. But BlackPink is different. They don’t have one.
Blackpink opted for a no-leader policy. Initially, it was thought that Jennie was the leader, but the group later refused and said they don’t have a leader per se but they prefer following the oldest member of the group.
They said they have been training for so long that they feel more like friends and prefer working through issues together.
Instead of having a leader, Blackpink members have their own set rules and tasks that each member follows. If they come across any troubles or issues, they prefer to work them out together.
Lisa is said to be the one who is in charge of dance, Jisoo is in charge of any hard decisions that come their way as she is the oldest in the group, Jennie is the one who initiates things, and Rosé is in charge of all small things.
The Journey and Rise of BlackPink:
Debuted in 2016 with their single album Square One which featured “Boombayah,” BlackPink is an all-girls group under YG Entertainment. It was the first girl group to be released by YG Entertainment in over seven years.
The members auditioned to become students with the hope of one-day making their debut as recording artists. Their dreams came true in 2016 when Boombayah was released.
In a short period, they managed to gain so much popularity. The group was initially said to be named as PinkPunk but later shifted to BlackPink. Also, BlackPink’s fans are called “Blink,” which is a mix of their names.
When asked about their band name, they said the meaning of BlackPink aims to contradict the common perception of the color pink.
Usually, pink is used to portray prettiness, while black stands for something dark. The band said that BlackPink suggests “Pretty isn’t everything.” It also symbolizes that they are a team of not only pretty girls, but also highly talented ones.
Years before their debut, there had been rumors about them including some pre-debut pictures. Jennie and Rosé, two of the members were even seen participating in G-Dragon of BIGBANG’s tracks during their trainee periods.
Jisoo on the other hand had starred in many commercials and music videos. Finally, prior to their debut, YG officially released a teaser picture of the four: Jennie, Jisoo, Rosie, and Lisa marking their entry.
Their song ‘Boombayah’ shot to number one rank on Billboard’s World Digital Songs chart the moment it hit the crowd.
Just 13 days after their debut, their first music show won on Inkigayo, breaking the record for the shortest time for a girl group to win on a music program. Since then, their popularity continues to grow to this day.
BlackPink today has over 70.1M subscribers on YouTube with many more joining every day. BlackPink makes sure to give its customers exactly what they want and upload musical pieces that remain with them forever. Their fans never fail to show up whenever there is a performance.

Jisoo is said to be the first confirmed member of the girl group. Prior to her debut on BlackPink, Jisoo had acted in various commercials and has also been announced as the star of a drama titled Snowdrop.
The singer has a quirky sense of humor and the tendency to generate on-the-spot songs on any topic.

When YG Entertainment started recruiting trainees for BlackPink, she moved to South Korea.
Jennie told her mother she wished to pursue a career as a singer and performer. It seemed like the right choice as she soon became a trainee in YG earlier than Jisoo back in 2010.
Known as BlackPink’s main rapper, Jennie calls herself an introvert, stating she is “super shy” around people. She speaks Korean, Japanese and English very well.
Jennie is also the first amongst the four to have released an individual track titled ‘SOLO’.
The music video showcased her versatility as both a singer and rapper. Further establishing her as a fashion icon, Jennie was seen wearing more than 20 outfits within the three-minute clip.
The song received over 540 million views on YouTube and quickly became the most viewed music video by a female Korean solo artist within 24 hours of release.
Rosé (24 Years)
Park Chaeyoung, also known as Rosé, was born in New Zealand and raised in Australia where she auditioned for YG Entertainment in 2012. Rosé is fluent in English.
She learnt Korean soon after she moved to South Korea to participate in the trainee program. She is currently BlackPink’s lead singer. “Blink” claims that her voice is pretty easy to recognize.
Rose impressed all her fans on her version of Shakira’s hit single Waka Waka during a promotional appearance for their album.
Since BlackPink, Rosé has landed many endorsement deals such as being the global face for Saint Laurent’s fall/winter 2020 campaign. She was also selected to rep the South Korean cosmetics brand Kiss Me.
Also, she loves playing the piano and guitar and does a lot of cover songs on both English and Korean songs.
Lisa (24 Years)
Lalisa Pranpriya Manoban aka Lisa is well-known for her dance and rap skills. The youngest member of the group, Lisa was born and raised in Thailand. She learned Korean after moving to South Korea in 2011.
Lisa currently also speaks English, Japanese, and Chinese. During a promotional appearance, she projected her dance skills and impressed the audience, making her well-known for that.
Lisa got into performing due to her aunt, who was also in a music group. She took up dance lessons while growing up in Thailand.
Her dance is a combination of enchanting facial expressions, smooth body waves and rolls, all of this can be seen in the band’s viral music videos. She is obsessed with vintage shopping and carries about an impeccable style.
Just like Jisoo, Lisa during her singing career had managed to land many endorsement deals from popular brands and television appearances on Korean variety shows.
In 2020, Lisa was crowned the brand ambassador of Bulgari. She also participated in the B.zero1 and Serpenti campaigns.
